How does it work?

When you contact us we’ll arrange to meet you for a free consultation, during this meeting we can also discuss your Baby Naming or ‘Christening’ ceremony and we will guide you through the various options and find out what you would like your ceremony to include. Once we’ve received your deposit your ceremony will be written for you and you will receive a first draft within 14 days to which you can make any changes or additions if you wish. Your Baby Naming or ’Christening’ Ceremony will be conducted by us on the day.

Where can we hold the Naming/’Christening’?

The ceremony can be held anywhere, for example:

  • At home
  • In a marquee
  • A stately home or hotel
  • Local park
  • Village hall
What is the difference between a Naming and a ‘Christening’ ceremony?

A traditional Christening is held in a church and is a commitment made in the eyes of to God and means the child will be a Christian, there is also the option of a 'thanksgiving' which is a blessing of the child to mark their safe arrival. One Life Ceremonies do not conduct Christenings that are associated with a church instead we allow parents the option to use that term if they choose to so where some parents may prefer the term ‘Naming’ or ‘Baby Naming’ and use the term ‘Guide’ parents others may prefer ‘Christening’ and use the term ‘God’ parents. We believe everyone should have this choice.

Can we include our friends and family?

Yes, you might like to ask close friends and family to become ‘Guide’ or ‘God’ Parents to your child and you can also include Grandparents and other children if you have them.

Are you Humanists?

We are not Humanists nor are we affiliated to any religion or belief system, this leaves you free to include the words, readings and contributions that you would like without any restrictions.

Can we include religion?

Yes, the choice of a fully non-religious ceremony or one which contains elements of religion is entirely yours.

How old does my child need to be?
