The Legalities

Visit our new One Life Weddings website!

A One Life Wedding Ceremony does not include the legal marriage paperwork which means you'll have alot more freedom over the location and content of your wedding.

Civil Marriage is fraught with rules and regulations, and in England and Wales only Registrars and designated religious officiants can legally complete the paperwork for the marriage documents. This means that for the time being this part remains separate to your One Life Wedding Ceremony. You can arrange to visit the Register Office to complete the paperwork at a time convenient to you which may be on the morning of your wedding or a day or two before. Here you can read our guide to completing your Register Office marriage.

Because the legal part is held separately this means your actual Wedding Ceremony will have no restrictions, leaving you free to hold your wedding at any time of the day and anywhere you choose including outdoors!

We do not need to see any documentation in order to conduct your wedding, it is entirely up to you when you hold your legal marriage but most couples make the arrangements a day or two before or on the morning of their wedding itself.

If you would prefer your guests not to know that your One Life Wedding doesn't include the legal documents that is not a problem, we never say anything at the start of a ceremony and can even deliver a ceremony which is similar to that of a Civil registrar led wedding, we even have a book you can use for your photographs.

We've found that most guests at our weddings don't realise that it isn't the legal wedding, they are simply surprised at how personal they are! (unlike a Registar led wedding!)
